The Church – The Rock of Gibraltar

Rebecka Walter

And I say also unto thee, thou art Peter, and upon this ROCK I will build my church; and the gates of hell SHALL NOT prevail against it (Mt. 16:18 KJV).

When reading this Scripture, first notice that Jesus is talking to Peter directly, and He is calling him by the destiny He placed inside of him!

“Thou art Peter.” Jesus did not call him by what he used to be (Simon), but by what he was called to do – to be and to build a church that demonstrates power and authority.

I want you to understand something, especially if you are unsure of what you are called to do. In Matthew chapter 10, verses 6-8, Jesus commissions His disciples to go (stop waiting), preach, heal the sick, cleanse the leper, raise the dead, and cast out demons. Are you not one of His disciples too?

But don’t worry, Princess! If you go back to the original Scripture in Matthew (16:18), Jesus did not refer to Simon as just any rock! The Amplified translates ‘Peter’ into a HUGE rock or the rock of GIBRALTAR!

The rock of Gibraltar stands 1,398 ft. high and symbolizes stability, strength, and power. It is a mighty fortress that has withstood countless battles throughout history and still stands strong! Today, it continues to dominate Spain’s south coast and serves as a trusted military base.

Essentially, Gibraltar is a force to be reckoned with; so are you – the church of Jesus Christ. Peter began what you have the privilege to carry out.

So, as you go and be the church that Jesus came to define and establish 2,000 years ago, remember that the gates of hell SHALL NOT prevail, triumph, win, conquer, overcome, overrule, or dominate you – rock of Gibraltar!

Do not fear. Know who you are by knowing WHOSE you are and which foundation you stand on (Mt. 7:25).

And remember, the battle is already won, soldier. You’re just training to finish (Rev. 20:10; 1 Co. 9:24)!?

Go.
